The First LBNS Bluenose Intermediate Triples Championship was held this past weekend (August 6-7) at the Bedford Lawn Bowls Club. Created to encourage "non-elite" club level competition, four of Lawn Bowls Nova Scotia's member clubs sent representatives to compete in this year's event.
Congratulations to the Men's Champions, Dartmouth A (Cory Boudreau, John Wells, Paul Knox) and Women's Champions, Bedford A (Joyce Fraser, Lily McKinnon, Kaye Cranston) on winning this year's championship.

The second major championship of the 2016 season has completed with two new Provincial Pairs Champions headed to the 2017 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships in BC. In the Women's Pairs, Lena Cameron (Wanderers LBC) and Patti Granville (Cobequid LBC) topped defending champions Verna Murray (Dartmouth LBC) and Val Bechard (Bedford LBC) in a best of three series (18-12 and 18-14) to pick up the Women's championship. In the Men's Final, Terry O'Neil (Dartmouth LBC) and Doug McLearn (Bedford LBC) defeated former National Pairs Champions Steve Ogden and Steve Bezanson (Wanderers LBC) 13-11 to take out this year's titles. Congratulations to all of the teams that competed in this great event!

Four teams from around Nova Scotia have booked their spots into the 2016 Atlantic Bowls Tournament after winning the Provincial Triples trials event at the Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club this weekend. In the Women’s Triples, Debbie Foster (Bridgetown LBC), Tammy Foster-Veinot (Bridgetown LBC) and Jackie Foster (Dartmouth LBC) won the A final over the Wanderers LBC team of Ruth Bowman, Anne MacDonald and Vicki Balcom 28-8. In the B Final, the Dartmouth LBC team of Vivian Condran, Brenda Reesor and Bernadette Beaver defeated Team Bowman 17-16 in an extra end to book their spot in the Atlantic Bowls. In the Men’s Triples, the team of Wanderers LBC bowlers Ian MacDonald, Mike Hadley and Bedford LBC bowler Doug McLearn won the A Final defeating the Bridgetown LBC team of Dave Veinot, Jerry Publow and Gerald Hackenschmidt 17-9. In the B Final, Cameron LeFresne (Wanderers LBC), Braeden Campbell (Bridgetown LBC) and Mike Stewart (Bridgetown LBC) defeated Team Veinot 21-2 to book their spot. The teams four teams will represent Nova Scotia at the 2016 Atlantic Bowls tournament, to be held at the Centennial LBC in Moncton, NB, September 8-10.

Steve and Lorraine Bezanson of Halifax will be heading to Quebec next year representing Nova Scotia after defending their Nova Scotia Mixed Pairs title in a thrilling extra end showdown Sunday at the Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club in Truro. The Wanderers Lawn Bowls Club members defeated the Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club team of Chris Donnachie and Helen Brightman 17-16 to clinch the title after a 22-9 win over Cobequid’s Jim and Patti Granville in the A Final earlier in the event.The final was a thrilling encounter between the Bezanson and Donnachie teams which came down to the wire. Donnachie scored one in the 18th end to force the game into extra ends. After the 19th end was killed multiple times by both teams, Bezanson scored one in the 22nd end to clinch the championship after Lorraine Bezanson drew the shot on her fourth bowl of the end. The Bezanson's advance to the 2017 Canadian Mixed Pairs Championship to be held in Quebec.

Congratulations to Cameron LeFresne (Wanderers LBC) and Tammy Foster-Veinot (Bridgetown LBC) on winning the E.W. "Silver Fox" Foster Mixed Pairs, held this weekend at the Bridgetown Lawn Bowling Club. LeFresne and Foster-Veinot went 4-1 during the round robin, topping the previously undefeated team of Steve and Lorraine Bezanson (Wanderers LBC) 10-7 in the Championship match. 3rd Place went to Braeden Campbell and Teri Beckner (Bridgetown LBC) who defeated Dave Veinot (Bridgetown LBC) and Jackie Foster (Dartmouth LBC) 12-9 in the third place match. Great job to all 14 teams who braved the rainy conditions to make for a great tournament!

Cameron LeFresne is off to the 2017 Canadian Championships in British Columbia after leading his team to a title defence in the NS Men’s Fours Championship, held Saturday at the Bridgetown Lawn Bowling Club. LeFresne along with Wanderers Lawn Bowls Club teammates Ian MacDonald, Mark Robar and Phil Balcom won the title in a tie-breaking game against clubmates Terry O’Neil, Adam McKerihen, Bob Murray and Charles Stock. After dropping a 16-15 decision in the first game of the day to the O’Neil rink, the LeFresne rink won 17-16 in an extra end before winning the title in the third game 27-3. In Women’s Fours, defending champion Debbie Foster, Tammy Foster-Veinot, Lorraine Bezanson and Jackie Foster went unopposed and will represent Nova Scotia at the 2017 Canadian Championships.

In the Women’s Pairs, Dartmouth LBC’s Verna Murray and Bedford LBC’s Val Bechard won the A Final over the Wanderers LBC and Dartmouth LBC pairing of Lena Cameron and Ann Marie Siteman. Cameron and Siteman later went on to win the B Final to win their spot defeating the Wanderers LBC team of Anne MacDonald and Ruth Bowman.
In the Men’s Pairs, the Bedford LBC and St. Mary’s LBC pairing of Paul Higgins and Graham Doyle won the A Final defeating Dartmouth’s Wally Boudreau and Gordon Foster. The B Final was won by Cobequid LBC’s Chris Donnachie and Jim Granville who defeated Boudreau and Foster to book their spot.
The four teams will represent Nova Scotia at the 2016 Atlantic Bowls tournament, to be held at the Centennial LBC in Moncton, NB, September 8-10. The remaining positions will be decided at the NS Atlantic Triples trials, to be played July 22-24 at the Dartmouth LBC.

Congratulations to the teams that competed in this year's Apple Blossom Mixed Triples at the Bridgetown Lawn Bowling Club! This year's championship went to John Siteman, Ann Marie Siteman and Raymond MacDonald (Dartmouth LBC) who captured the title with a 4-1 record. 2nd Place went to Milledge Sheridan, Carolyn Ulch and Mike Stewart (Bridgetown LBC/Bedford LBC) with a 3-2 record. 3rd place went to Cameron LeFresne, Lena Cameron and Ron Cameron (Wanderers LBC) with a record of 3-2. Great job everyone! Up next in our provincial schedule, the Dartmouth Early Bird Mixed Triples next weekend.

After a great weekend of bowls at the Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club, the top two singles bowlers in the province have solidified their place at the top. Steve Bezanson and Lena Cameron, both of the Wanderers Lawn Bowls Club, captured this year’s titles in the field of 13 men and 3 women. Bezanson defeated Gordon Curtis of the Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club (7-6, 10-2) after losing to Curtis in the preliminary tournament. Cameron defeated Ann Marie Siteman in an extra game of a double knockout tournament (6-4, 11-5) after Siteman forced an extra game, winning in a tiebreaker (9-8, 5-9, 2-1). This marks Cameron’s 7th Nova Scotia Singles Championship title. Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who competed in this successful event.
