It was golden day in Saint John for Team Nova Scotia as they captured the Sid Currie Memorial Trophy in a dominating performance at the 2025 Atlantic Bowls Championship. Going into the day in medal contention in all four events, the team finished off with a 4-2-2 record against Quebec in the final two sessions to cap off the weekend with a strong 30-14-4 overall record and taking out all four gold medal titles! This mark’s Nova Scotia’s 27th Sid Currie Memorial Trophy title at the Atlantic Bowls Championship (since it was first awarded in 1984) and a successful defence of their title won last year in Dartmouth. In the Men’s Pairs, the gold medal went to Ian MacDonald and Jim Granville who finished off the weekend with a 4-1-1 record. The Wanderers based duo had a strong performance all weekend and capped it off with a nailbiting 12-10 win over Quebec B’s Jean-Rene Leduc and Marco Veillieux to clinch the top position. Our B representatives Gerald Hackenschmidt and Tim Jackson of Bridgetown finished out the weekend in 6th Place after a 9-9 tie in the final session against Quebec A’s Andy Wepruk and Jonathan Knight. In the Women’s Pairs, it was two medals for Team Nova Scotia as the Wanderers duo of Lindsay LeFresne and Patti Granville captured the Gold Medal with a strong 5-1 weekend while the Dartmouth duo of Ann Marie Siteman and Vicki Balcom took home the bronze medal with a 4-1-1 record. Both teams had strong performances throughout the division setting themselves up for medal finishes going into Day 3. For LeFresne and Granville, it was a tight 13-11 decision over Quebec A’s Muffin Hoodspith and Gail Routley which booked their Gold Medal berth while Siteman and Balcom finished off with a nailbiting 8-8 tie against Quebec B’s Johanne DuCap and Dee Conroy to cap off the weekend in 3rd Place. In the Men’s Triples, it was another Gold Medal for the Wanderers based trio of Steve Ogden, Rick Fry and Grahame Usher who took out the title in Saint John with a strong 5-1 record. Going into Sunday, the team was an undefeated 5-0 but dropped a tight 9-6 decision to Quebec A’s John Devlin Mike Doskas and Gilles Cayer. However, the better aggregate score at the end of the round robin propelled Team Nova Scotia into the top position. Our Nova Scotia A team of Dave Veinot, Steve Bezanson and Mike Stewart fought through some adversity and finished off the weekend with an 11-7 win over Quebec B’s Venance Basque, Benoit Vezina and Andre Beauchesne to finish 2-4 on the weekend. In the Women’s Triples, it was a two medal day for Team Nova Scotia with a return to the top of the podium as Tammy Foster-Veinot, Jackie Foster and Lorraine Bezanson (Bridgetown and Wanderers) as the trio took out a strong Gold Medal win with a 5-0-1 record for the weekend. With their only blemish being a tie earlier in the round robin, it was a strong 13-8 win in the final session over Quebec A’s Anne-Marie Belanger, Diane Dolan and Addie Petronko which booked Team Nova Scotia another trip to the top of the podium. With the bronze medal, it was the Dartmouth based trio of Cathy Mills, Mayumi Endo and Kelly Moore who capped off the weekend with a final 3-3 record to take out the bronze on aggregate. Congratulations to all of our members of Team Nova Scotia on representing the province with pride and putting on a great showing on and off the greens. Thanks to the Seaside Lawn Bowls Club, the host committee, the volunteers, the officials and everyone who helped put on an outstanding showcase of lawn bowls in Eastern Canada. Looking forward to next year as the event heads back to Quebec.
