It was a nail biting final day of action at the 2026 Atlantic Bowls Championship in Pointe-Claire, Quebec as Team Nova Scotia wrapped up their campaign finishing in 2nd Place Overall in the race for the Sid Currie Memorial Trophy. Here is your final event recap from the competition. Men’s Triples It was a golden morning in the Men’s Triples for our Nova Scotia A trio of Steve Ogden, Rick Fry and Grahame Usher as they won their 3rd consecutive Atlantic Bowls Men’s Triples title. Going into the final round needing a win to guarantee their spot at the top of the podium, the experienced trio came up big with a 10-7 win over the longtime Quebec A representatives John Devlin, Mike Doskas and Gilles Cayer. The win continues their exceptional record, winning gold previously in Dartmouth in 2024 and in Saint John in 2025. Congrats guys on another great campaign! For the Nova Scotia B trio of Mike Ritchie, Charles Stock and Larry Anderson, it was a nail biting final session as they dropped a tight 11-8 decision to New Brunswick B (Christopher Lane, Paul Johnson and Cyril Landry) to finish just outside the medal placings on head to head record. Well bowled to you all! Women’s Triples For our Women’s Triples reps, it came down to lots of number crunching as every bowl mattered in determining the final placings with a three way tie for podium position at the completion of the round robin. It was a battle of the top two teams in the field as Nova Scotia A (Ann Marie Siteman, Carolyn Reeves and Vicki Balcom) faced off against the undefeated Quebec A trio of Voula Vassilounis, Pat Chiara and Gail Routley. The teams went bowl for bowl all morning but it finished up with the hosts taking a 12-9 win to clinch the gold medal. For the Nova Scotia B trio of Lindsay LeFresne, Joyce Anderson and Lesley Mohan, it was a a game both on the green and on the standings as they looked to get enough points to ensure their final playoff position in their matchup against New Brunswick B (Veronica McGinn, Jane Howell and Kim Hardacker). It was a consistent performance by the Bluenose duo with their Quebec based teammate as they wrapped up the event with a 16-3 win. After it was all completed, a 3 way tiebreaker on the leaderboard between Nova Scotia A, Nova Scotia B and the Quebec B trio of Carolyn McGarr, Denise Stojda and Mila Sachdeva (all at 3-2 at the completion of round robin play) had to be broken on point ratio- finishing up with Nova Scotia A having a nail biting silver medal clinching by just over 0.02 on the final standings and Nova Scotia B clinching the Bronze Medal. Congratulations to you all on a great weekend of bowls! Men’s Pairs It was a battle of the undefeated teams in the morning, as Nova Scotia A (Ian MacDonald and Luke Guthro) faced off against the powerhouse Quebec A duo of Ryan Craig and David-James Smith. Though our duo persevered throughout the match, the former internationals for Ireland and Canada respectively got over the line with a 21-8 victory to take out the Gold Medal while Nova Scotia took out the Silver Medal. Great job to you both- especially to lead Luke Guthro making his Team Nova Scotia representative debut on short notice due to an injury affecting previous team member Jim Granville and performing well against top notch opposition. For our Nova Scotia B duo of Milton Graves and Peter Boudreau- it was a very competitive Sunday morning as they dropped a tight 17-12 decision to the experienced New Brunswick duo of Brian Myers and Jerry Kirkpatrick. Though they didn’t end up with the wins they hoped for, Milton and Peter represented their club and their province with pride. Great job gentlemen! Women’s Pairs In the Women’s Pairs, it was a nail biting final matchup for Nova Scotia A (Debbie Tower and Debbie Mitchell) as they faced off with the 1st Place duo of Quebec A (Maureen Cox and Donna LeBlanc). It was a top notch battle right to the last bowl with our team dropping a 16-15 decision to the hosts to finish just outside of medal contention. A great season for Tower and Mitchell having represented Nova Scotia in both the Canadian Championships and the Atlantic Bowls and proving themselves against top teams from all over Canada. For our Nova Scotia B duo (Mayumi Endo and Heather Salmon) it was a great final round on Sunday as they finished off with a win- defeating the experienced duo from New Brunswick B, Ann Cliche and Lisa Jesso, 10-7 to close out their campaign. Congratulations on a great weekend of bowls for you both. LBNS would like to congratulate Team Quebec on winning this year’s Sid Currie Memorial Trophy. Thank you so much to the awesome team at the Pointe Claire Lawn Bowling Club for putting on this year’s event and being such welcoming hosts. We look forward to next year’s Atlantic Bowls Championship scheduled to take place in Prince Edward Island in September 2027.
