It was a great weekend of lawn bowls action this weekend at the Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club as they hosted the 2025 Provincial Men’s Singles Championship. 10 top men’s players from across our member clubs took to the greens for their chance at the top men’s individual title in our association. After the round robin, the top 6 advanced to the playoff rounds: Steve Ogden (1st: 3-0, +43), Mark Mullane (2nd: 3-0, +27), John Siteman (3rd: 3-0, +25), Grahame Usher (4th: 2-1, +7), Kevin Stewart (5th: 1-2, -3) and Terry O’Neil (6th: 1-2, -5). The quarterfinals round (the battle of the Team Nova Scotia National 5-a-Side Team) was played Sunday morning with John Siteman defeating Terry O’Neil (21-5) and Kevin Stewart defeating Grahame Usher (21-9). In the semifinals, it was wins by both Steve Ogden and Mark Mullane to set up the finals matchups. In the Finals, the championship game would feature Steve Ogden vs. Mark Mullane while the third place game featured John Siteman vs. Kevin Stewart. In the championship game full of lots of big time shots for the lawn bowls fans in attendance, Steve Ogden had a quick start to jump out to a 11-5 lead after 10 ends. Then it was Mark Mullane who staged quite the comeback- outscoring Ogden 11-6 to get the margin to 17-16. In the end, it was a 3 in the 22nd end to get Ogden over the line to take out the title once again. In the 3rd place game, it was a strong performance from both John Siteman and Kevin Stewart with lots of great shots throughout the match. With some strong draw play to kick off the game, Siteman jumped out to a 15-3 lead after 10. The next four ends were a strong comeback with great shots from Stewart to the delight of the Bedford fans who came to cheer him on. In the end, it was a trail of the Jack for 2 in the 17th end to get Siteman over the line and onto the podium once again. Thanks to the Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club for hosting a great Provincial Men’s Singles Championship- including Match Chair Debby Purdy, umpires Joan MacDonald, Gordon Foster, Vicki Balcom and Jackie Foster, the markers, the kitchen crew, the maintenance crew and all the many other volunteers who helped make the event a success. Up next on the LBNS Provincial Calendar, the Women take to the greens of the St. Mary’s Lawn Bowls Club for the 2025 Provincial Women’s Singles Championship next weekend (September 20-21). If you haven’t gotten your entry in yet- make sure to do so ASAP as the deadline is tonight! If you’re not playing, make sure to get over to St. Mary’s to cheer on the players as they go for gold!
