DLBC Summer Worker

​We're Hiring!
The Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club is seeking applications for a Summer Worker position at the club for the 2020 Summer Season. This position is responsible for many vital aspects of maintaining the clubhouse, grounds and green for members during the season. This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs- the successful applicant must be between Age 15 and 30.
  • Rate of Pay- $12.55 per hour
  • Hours per week- 35 hours per week
  • Start and End Dates- July 2nd, 2020-October 2nd, 2020 (may end earlier if successful applicant is returning to school in September)

Some of the responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to:
  • General maintenance activities such as moving equipment, painting, cleaning windows, and keeping the appearance and neatness of the club and grounds to high standards.
  • Daily maintenance of the outside artificial playing surface and the natural grass perimeter.
  • Opening and closing the club each day, including raising and lowering the Canadian flag, setting up the greens for play, and opening the equipment room.
  • Watering of flowers 
  • Setting the security alarm at the end of day.
  • Ensuring proper cleanliness and temperature inside the clubhouse and keeping supplies stocked in bathrooms and the kitchen.
  • Act as an ambassador for the sport of lawn bowls to club guests and assist members, players, and spectators with errands around the grounds and in the clubhouse.
  • Further responsibilities may be added due to the COVID-19 pandemic- including safety monitoring, scheduling assistance during bowls sessions and additional cleaning and sanitizing requirements.

The successful applicant will spend their first week working with the Maintenance Supervisor, learning what is expected in the role (with duty lists provided for what activities are to be done each day), the schedule of duties for each day/week and any special events activities during the season. 
Interaction between the employee and members/guests will be welcoming and warm. To achieve this, the employee will be given a brief history of the club and lawn bowls in general and will be given lessons on general play and etiquette. 
The supervisor will be the employees guide and will communicate all responsibilities in advance and will be available daily (either in person or by phone) to answer any questions. They will also keep check on the day to day work to ensure that work is being completed effectively. The employee will also be in contact with the Club's Executive for additional guidance and coverage if the supervisor is not available. The employee will have regular meetings with the supervisor to establish goals and check on performance throughout their term. Members will interact with the employee daily. Jobs will vary day to day depending on events of the day and weather. The employee will become familiar with all of the club's members and the Club's policies.
